American Airlines Training & Conference Center Reduces Cost of Heating System Operation

Introduction

The American Airlines Training & Conference Center is a meeting venue and hotel, located in Fort Worth, TX. The building offers 299 rooms and 75,000 square feet of meeting space. It provides space for group activities and outdoor team building exercises. The conference center has three restaurants and 75 conference rooms. Its convenient location makes it a popular destination for meetups in the Dallas – Fort Worth metro area.

With multiple floors and four separate wings, the facility hosts a multitude of travelers, and it requires consistent and efficient heating.

Challenges

The conference center previously relied on scotch marine type boilers, a less efficient steam powered boiler.

The building required an upgrade to a more reliable and cost-effective solution that provided energy savings while handling the heating demands of the large building. The facility was also in need of remote access to the boiler control system for continuous monitoring and opted for a Variable Primary piping system to reduce the number of pumps.

“P-K MACH® commercial boilers are CSA certified at 92% – 96% efficiency, with actual thermal efficiencies up to 99%.”

The boiler room upgrade was facilitated with six MACH® C300 units, which feature the patented NURO® Touch Screen Control System and a smart relay panel. With the NURO® Control, the staff is able to remotely monitor and modify the boiler system to maintain high levels of efficiency while simultaneously increasing energy savings.

The relay panel also limited the cost of piping, which resulted in a more cost-effective application without sacrificing the performance to the heating system.

“Modular boiler plant design minimized investment in redundant equipment and provided an attractive overall system turndown while maintaining high efficiencies,” said Eric Johnson, CEO at Hydrotemp, LLC.

The system operating efficiency was a fraction of the cost to operate, compared to the 8,000MBH boiler that was in operation prior to the upgrade.

The P-K MACH® condensing aluminum boiler is perfect for both, retrofit projects and new installations. It easily fits through a standard 36-inch doorway and requires minimal hookups, making its installation one of the quickest on the market. The aluminum heat exchanger utilized in the P-K MACH® is easy to cast and achieves higher heat transfer than other metals, resulting in higher efficiency.

For natural gas models C750, C900, and C1050, the P-K MACH® is available with 10:1 mechanical turndown, which maintains high efficiency without the need to add excess air.
